GROWING STUFF

Fruit and veg are growing rapidly in the garden, so much so that we are giving some away. The freezer is now at bursting point and we have so many pickles & chutney's in the larder.

Plenty of lettuce. Oakleaf and icebergs.

Courgettes (loads of them), Cucumbers and Gherkins

Sprouts, cauliflowers, cabbage (for the autumn), strawberries,

Loads of beetroot, carrots, spring onions, leeks.

The apple & plum trees are loaded.
A barrel has been bought and cider is going to be made.

A selection of preserves. Pickled shallots, beetroot, spiced gherkins, & curried courgette and onion chutney.

SUMMER SCHEDULE

Lots of things happening in the next few weeks as summer takes hold.
Here is the summer diary.

30th July. Katie and Paul arrive for 4 days

1st August. Moules frittes night at the lake. (All nighter)

6th August. Paul arrives. Bruno has been warned.

9th August. Old Shipmate Alan Cartwright and family are coming. They are staying at a campsite nearby.

13th August. Big pig roast at the lake organised by the village.

3rd September. Tim, Bomber and 4 more are arriving in their motorhome. Bruno will be in overdrive!

ST POTAN DOG SHOW

Sunday at the lake there was a dog show organised by "Le Societe de Chasse" (The hunt)
We certainly don't agree with hunting, but it seemed a good idea to check it out to learn more about our hosts.
Hunts from all over the area turned up with their packs to show them off and to be judged.
There was also an open section for dogs which we didn't realise or we would have entered Bella who is a pedigree.
Arthur could not have entered and he was the result of an affair between a huskey and an alsation, so he would have been disqualified for being a half caste!

Hunting dogs.

Er..More hunting dogs but white.

Griffon hunting dogs. Very hairy!

Each hunt had their colours on as they paraded their best dog.

The French are such cruel buggers! They dug a big pit and burried a wild boar up to his neck and then charged a euro to chuck an empty bottle of pastis at it.
Not really...Just an exibition of taxidermy.

The parade of the hunts. Loads of dogs.

The finalists of all dog classifications. The woman on the far left is the area president and her husband was one of the judges. A round of applause was also given to each dog to help the judges. The woman had little applause but still came 2nd.

Best in show went to a rather large hunt dog.

And finally worst in show, pictured from behind.
I am dead when she reads this!
This could be the last post ever on the blog.
Sorry folks!!!!!

ST CAST PORT

A 2 year project to dredge the harbour and lay pontoons is nearly complete. There will be moorings for 350 craft. Also planned are new shops, bars and restaurants, which will bring in the yachting brigade.
They are trying to make it the St Tropez of the north.
Good news for house prices.

ARTHUR AND BELLA

There is only one thing to do with an empty 10 litre bag of wine. Inflate it as it makes a good dog toy...for about 10 seconds.

SUMMER DARTS LEAGUE

Summer darts has been going on for a few weeks now. It's not as important as the main season leagues so we have bought in some players who want to play for us next season.
Didier & Bruno have featured this summer. We have won 4 and lost 2 of our games so far.
The new season starts on 17th Sept and we are hoping to win our division and have another "giant killing" run in the Coupe de France

BASTILLE DAY

OK..So Bastille Day is on the 14th July, but the closest Sunday to that date there is the village pig roast, or cochon grille as the locals call it!
10 euros..all you can eat. Lovely!

2 pigs on the spit. Not had 2 pigs here for a couple of weeks!...Sorry Liz!

About 100 turn up.

Fine carving of the pork!!!

All the Brits sit together. It's a clan thing!

Then back to ours to see the day out. Brilliant!

A SAD BUT TRUE STORY

We are regular visitors to the bar at St Lormel, where they have a pub dog cally Ullysees. Very friendly and amiable to all who visit.
The owners want to breed from him so they posted this picture on a website looking for a lady friend who could be a mate to the "big boy"
Ullysees was looking forward to meeting his new lady friend!

Ullysees then gets the bad news that he has had no replies.
He seems to have taken it badly!

APERO RUN

Al & John went out for a few beers at Pleven. The bar is looking good in summer!

THE BURROWS FAMILY ARRIVE..OH JOY!

Liz, Aileen, and her boyfriend Dean made it across the channel.
Driving from Roscoff was a big achievement for Liz, but luckily a dose of beta blockers calmed the nerves.
As usual we were eaten out of house and home. The freezer is now nearly empty and it looks like we are on grool till the end of the month.

Sadly after a week they had to leave. Sniff!!!!!!
