GOOD CROPS

The garden has produced well this year.
Broad beans, runner beans, e, beetroot, are just a few to mention.
But because of the wet weather, the best success has been the sweetcorn.
Our best crop ever.
And at 2 euros a pod in the supermarket, a well worthwhile crop.

NEW LAWN MOWER

Our lawn mower has packed up, so instead of splashing out on a new one, we have gone for the cheaper option.
Fully expect our new mower to clear our back garden in less than a month!!

This picture was nicked from the Beauty and the beast website!

A SMALL ADVERT

My dear esteemed blog readers.
As you know I have taken an active roll in the past year with the France North Royal Navy Association.
On Thursday 20th September, I have organised a luncheon for members and guests at our fine village restaurant. Auberge du Manoir.

If any of our blog readers would like to come over and visit to attend this function, we would be glad to see you.
Obviously staying with us is free, but the meal will cost 19-50 euros, which when it comes with unlimited wine, represents great value.

Just e-mail or call us if you are up for it!

A DAY IN DINAN

I went to Dinan with Kaz and Gary for a beer and a bit of lunch last week

As usual, the views over the port were spectacular.

Saw this barge on the river, built in Barrow over 100 years ago.
Sadly now turned in to a floating boutique.

The view from the other side of the river at Dinan port. Sadly a lone prostitute walks the banks!

A GREAT SUNDAY

Sorry for the slow updates on here. I have had computer issues.
Mainly..I can't work the effing thing!
Anyway, the previous Sunday we went down to the port at St Cast with Gary and Kaz.
A couple of pre dinner drinks were dissolved before the main mission.

But before we started the main mission, we had to suffer an hour of the seafarers singing group of Plevenon singing traditional sea shanty's.
Not once did we hear "Father Abraham", "Oggie Land", or indeed "The lobster song"

Anyway, the main mission was to have a Fruit de Mer for 3 people.
Marie doesn't like seafood unless it comes in batter with chips.

A fine selection of seafood from out the local waters was enjoyed over a couple of hours, all washed down with muscadet.

Kaz has the final proof that we ate it all with a full bowl of shells.
A great afternoon with good company.
One of those days that you will always remember.

TOURIST DAY

My good Navy Chief Stoker friend Gary Crabtree is here with his other half Kaz.
I should say they are now together as Kaz came out 4 days before Gary because of his non arrival of the new passport.

Before Gary got here we had a day doing the tourist bit of the marvelous Brittany coastline.

Have been to Cap fFehel lighthouse many times, but it was never open, so it was great to go to the top and take some pictures this time.

Only 135 steps to the top of the lighthouse, but the views are stunning.

It is the tallest lighthouse in Brittany.

Then after a light lunch in Sable D'Or we went to Fort La Latte

We have seen the fort many times from the sea when out fishing and it looks very impressive.

It was an excellent visit, and having read all the information about the fort, it turns out that the French fired a shot in anger some 275 years ago.

Still, a cracking place to visit for a couple of hours.
if you are in the area..GO!
About 5 euros entry fee and well worth it.

MOULES FRITTES FESTIVAL

Saturday night was the annual Moules Frittes festival at the lake.
Now, there was supposed to be 4 of us as Gary and Kaz were coming out for a fortnight.
Sadly, Gary had not received his passport in time, and now finds himself even further down the waiting list as 500 African athletes apply for asylum in London thanks to the Olympics.
Still, Kaz made it and Gary will join us next week hopefully.
Anyway, 400 people turned up for an evening of eating and dancing till 3AM.
The bar area was full to start with.

Hence leaving the dance floor empty.

And this is what it was all about.
A salad starter, followed by the moules, then apple pie, with a drink thrown in. All for 10 English pounds, or 12 euros as we call it here.

Then the dancing started.
Usual euro pop fare with the classics.
Ca plane pour moi.
Cotton Eye Joe.
Rasputin.
Joe le bloody taxi.
That is to name a few.
Why are French discos so crap?

LIVE MUSIC IN St CAST

Thursday night saw the return of The Black Country Jammers to the area.
A blues and soul band from Kidderminster have been coming over for 3 years now, and play some great stuff.

Performing at the Surf Bar in St Cast, there was a good turn out of locals and tourists.

Marie, Rachel, Harvey and Sam enjoying the atmosphere.

A DAY FISHING

Went out on Mikhail's boat on Tuesday with Spike and his son Sam.
Quite a pleasant 6 hours fishing, mainly for cuttlefish as there is an epidemic of these off the Brittany coast at the moment.

Quite a good catch of 10 or so.

And then in the evening, all chefed up with garlic, parsley, olive oil and white wine.
Very similar to squid, and very tasty.
